In the past few years its prevalence  has increased dramatically to win over the attention of not just health  professionals but of the media as well. Type 2 Diabetes is a disease  previously seen in aging adults who had years of high sugar consumption  behind them, however, it is now being seen in children as young as 5  and in some toddlers. This not only is an indication of the poor health  education of Americans but of the change in diet that is needed on a  national level to ensure a future for this country.</p><p><span
id="more-1068"></span></p><p><img
class="alignright size-full wp-image-1069" title="stockfresh_id622837_closeup-of-healthy-diet_sizeXS" src="http://www.healthcourage.com/wp-content/uploads/stockfresh_id622837_closeup-of-healthy-diet_sizeXS.jpg" alt="" width="424" height="283" />Diabetes  is a disease in which the body cannot properly regulate its blood glucose  levels. If one is affected by diabetes their insulin system does not  work properly in response to high levels of blood sugar (consumed glucose),  maintaining those high levels, causing further health complications.</p><p>Symptoms can be extremely severe and life threatening. Some include  blurry vision, excessive thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, and increased  appetite. This type of diabetes specifically is increasing in prevalence  in part to increases in overweight and obesity. Since this disease affects  the pancreas permanently, there is no cure. However, there have been  extensive improvements in treatment of diabetes, including the combination  of medicines, diet, and exercise to control blood sugar.</p><h3>Recommended Diabetic Diet</h3><p>If you have diabetes,  you are all too familiar with the stress doctors place on diet. Given  that an insufficient diet leads to diabetes it’s no wonder why it  would be important to follow a healthy diet to reverse its progression.  Upon diagnosis, individuals with diabetes receive guidance from a registered  dietitian. The dietitian will probably highlight several points to keep  in mind. The most important is limiting foods that are high in sugar.</p><p>In the body, glucose is broken down into simpler compounds, known as  sugar. In an effort to keep sugar low one must ensure that their total  carbohydrate intake is also low. A good way to do this is to go online  and look at foods that have a low Glycemic Index (GI). Such foods include  wholegrain pumpernickel or whole wheat bread, broccoli, mushrooms, tomatoes,  brown rice, buckwheat, apples, pears, grapes, strawberries, chickpeas,  kidney beans, and soy milk. Foods rates high on the GI include hamburger  buns, white bread and white rice, pumpkin, French fries, donuts, scones,  rice cakes, watermelon, corn flakes and Rice Krispies cereal.</p><p>Another big factor  to watch for is eating smaller portions that are spread throughout the  day. This is because the more you eat in one sitting, the higher your  blood sugar levels rise and then the more they drop as you do not give  your body more energy for an extended period of time. However, if you  give your body smaller portions spread in small intervals throughout  the day, your blood sugar levels will not increase as high and you will  be fueling your body before levels drop, which can cause fatigue and  even black outs. Such an eating pattern can lead to maintaining stable  glucose levels longer and safer.</p><h3>Losing Weight with a Diabetic Diet</h3><p>You might be shocked  to learn that following a diabetic diet can actually help you lose weight.  Aside from it helping to control blood pressure, cholesterol and safe  blood glucose levels, it lowers your total amount of sugar/glucose in  the body.</p><p>Increased glucose levels  can eventually lead to diabetes. So by following a diet that promotes  low glucose foods you can actually prevent or slow down the onset of  diabetes. By doing so, you are also monitoring your weight status by  watching the amount of sugar that goes into your body.</p><p>The other aspect, regarding  eating in smaller portions, is recommended by health experts around  the world. Many countries do not follow a big meal three times throughout  the day, as does the United States.  Most countries eat small portions  various times during the day to ensure that their bodies are constantly  receiving much needed energy to perform daily activities. This helps  to control weight but to also manage amount of energy the body has to  expend.</p><p>Lastly, the recommendation  to engage in exercise on a diabetic diet is something that should and  IS recommended for everyone, diabetic or non-diabetic. The importance  of exercise doesn’t need to be reiterated again for you today. However,  remember that for adults at least one hour of physical activity is recommended  5 days a week.</p><h3>Conclusion….</h3><p>If  you are looking to lose weight, you might want to adjust your daily  diet to follow a more diabetic diet. id="more-1009"></span></p><h2>Here are the top two meals to a healthier you:</h2><h3>Most Important Start to Your Day:  Breakfast</h3><p>Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It can set the tone  for your mood throughout the rest of the day, so it’s a good idea  to start it off right! A great recipe for this meal is the Portobello  Mushroom Benedict with Roasted Red Pepper Sauce. First, bake mushroom  caps on an oiled baking sheet for 10-12 minutes on 425 degrees.</p><p>Meanwhile,  sauté garlic and spinach in olive oil for 3-5 minutes, then add  lemon juice, lemon zest, and nutmeg. In a blender combine roasted red  peppers (finely chopped), capers, parsley, and reduced fat mayonnaise  (optional). Distribute the spinach onto the mushrooms, then a poached  egg, the roasted red pepper sauce, and finally some Parmesan cheese.  While calories are not important, this sums up at about 253, not bad  for a filling meal!</p><h3><img

If  you want something to fill you up, be sure to try this healthy version  of a classic Chinese food, Sesame Peanut Noodles.</p><p>Use whole wheat spaghetti  as the pasta and cook according to package instructions. For dressing,  combine rice vinegar, low-sodium soy sauce, peanut butter, grated ginger,  dark sesame oil, brown juice, lime, and hot water in a bowl and whisk.  Stir in noodles, and then add coleslaw mix, rep pepper, cilantro, apple,  jicama, sesame seeds, scallions, and mix. Refrigerate for one hour.  This delicious meal can serve as either a lunch or dinner, and weighs  in at just 308 calories per serving.</p><h3>Portion Control</h3><p>Other  than cooking healthy you must remember to always follow portion sizes  given on recipes. For example, a serving size of pasta for the Sesame  Peanut Noodles is ½ cup. This may seem like a small amount to  you, but it’s just the right amount of pasta your body needs. If you  cook healthy meals but consume more than necessary, you will not be  making any major differences to your health.</p><h3>Fiber Diets</h3><p>The  trend for high fiber diets has steadily increased over the last few  years. The health benefits include increasing the bulk in the colon  so that excretion passes smoothly. However, the other health benefit  is that dietary fiber, the part of the plant that goes undigested in  the stomach and small intestine, provides nourishment to the good bacteria  found in the colon.  Due to its health benefits, it is important to consume  a diet high in fiber. Generally, 23-35 grams, is considered an adequate  daily consumption of dietary fiber.</p><p>So  why is fiber so important to the colon? Well, the colon functions to  complete the digestive process. One way it accomplishes this is by removing  excess water that was not absorbed in the small intestine. Thus, it  helps prevent diarrhea.  The bacteria found in the colon is responsible  for helping prevent this as well as producing vitamins and enzymes,  enhancing the immune system, controlling cholesterol and triglyceride  levels, and preventing certain cancers. The bacteria in the colon also  produce a preventative effect to the development of colon cancer. Thus,  it follows that by consuming good dietary fiber and increasing the number  of good bacteria in the colon, you can decrease your risk for colon  cancer.</p><h3>Atkins Diet</h3><p>The  Atkins diet offers a different approach to weight loss, limiting certain  carbohydrates from one’s diet in an effort to improve metabolism and  minimize fat storage.</p><p>The  way that the Atkins diet is set up, is that it reduces the number of  carbohydrates that you intake as carbohydrates are often converted into  fat storage. When simple carbohydrates-cakes, biscuits, candy, soft  drinks, etc.-are consumed, they release an insulin response that converts  calories to fat more quickly. The plan requires that simple carbohydrates  be eliminated from a diet to reduce fat gain. Instead of focusing on  carbohydrates and grains as a source of vitamins and minerals, the diet  focuses on meat protein and vitamin supplementation.</p><h3>Conclusion</h3><p>The  best diet possible is a lifestyle change that will last forever and  not just for a certain period. It is recommended to consume 60% of calories  as carbohydrates, optimally grains, 25% from protein, and 15% from fat.  Maintaining a well-balanced diet is crucial to maintaining a healthy  and active lifestyle. Regardless of the diet plan you chose, you need  to ensure that it is the right diet plan for you and your lifestyle. These occur in the form of cigarettes, pollution, and even in the preservatives  and other chemicals used in foods, especially processed foods. Overtime  these toxins are believed to build up in the body and cause health problems,  including weight gain, cancer, etc. The idea behind detox diets is to  alter the body’s food intake so that the body cleanses itself. Generally,  to do this an individual must drastically lower and alter their food  intake</p><h3>Are there different types of  detox diets?</h3><p>The good and bad thing about detox  diets is that there are so many different types of diets to go on. Some  detox diets allow for only the consumption of fruit juices, while others  only allow red meat consumption, and even more extreme are diets that  require only water consumption. If trying to decide which diet is better,  the answer is not a simple one.</p><p>Each individual responds differently  to different diets. Thus, the only way to know which diet works for  you is to try one that you think you would feel comfortable with and  tweak it from there. Also, there are a few downfalls to each type of  detox diet that should be considered before starting a detox diet.</p><h3>Are you getting enough calories?</h3><p>More  than likely no. On average, adult women require 1800 kcal and adult  males 2000 kcal per day. Detox diets are designed to lower food intake,  which in most cases results in individuals consuming much less than  what is recommended. For example, in one fruit detox diet, individuals  can consume 8-ounces of juice three times a day, which ranges from approximately  80-125 kcal per serving.</p><p>While this does at least allow the individual  some calories, it is not enough to support normal body functions. One  of the most risky diets is the one only allowing for an intake of water,  which contains zero calories.</p><p>Common  side effectives of such diet include fatigue, dizziness, nausea, and/or  vomiting.  These result from a lack of energy necessary to maintain  bodily functions.</p><h3>Are you getting enough nutrients?</h3><p>Again,  we see that the water detox diet supplies no minerals or nutrients which  does impede the normal functioning of those who take on the water detox  challenge. Thus, this type of detox diet is not the one you want to  follow if you are a physically active individual planning on being physically  active while on the diet. This is an important consideration that often  gets overlooked.</p><p>If  you are considering to start a detox diet you need to understand that  you will be unable to perform activities that require large amounts  of energy, such as working out, running, etc. Smaller impact activities,  such as walking of going to work may not be as stressful on the bod.  Please plan accordingly before starting a detox diet because the last  thing you want is to pass out in the middle of an activity and suffer  the consequences that may cause.</p><h3>Do detox diets help you lose weight?</h3><p>Unfortunately,  there is not much evidence to support the effectiveness of detox diets.  However, detox diets do help individuals jumpstart their weight loss  program by giving them a few days to feel the difference between eating  healthy and unhealthy.</p><p>While  this might help some understand that eating healthier makes them feel  more energized and possibly happier throughout the day, detox diets  do have a controversial effect on the body in regards to weight loss.  If done long term, the decrease in food intake will lead to a significant  amount of weight loss. This might seem like the answer to your problems,  however, if you do not work your way back up to solid food slowly while  ensuring you are not overeating or eating poorly, you will put on a  lot more weight than lost just as quickly. This can lead to a decrease  in self-esteem, which might hinder future weight loss, and lifestyle  changes. This is not the goal in any weight loss program and is a major  concern for experts. However, there have been many cases where detox  diets have been successful in helping individuals lose weight, and thus,  if you are considering starting a detox diets please consult a physician  before starting so that you can get all the information necessary to  making it successful for you.<a

Exercise is done as a routine; however, physical activity is done during everyday activities such as taking the stairs at work or riding your bicycle to school. By adding physical activity into daily behaviors you can significantly increase the number of calories burned. How exactly are these calories burned? For starters, your body burns calories, as it needs energy to perform basic functions. These functions can range from brain activity to walking up the stairs. The more activity your body performs the more calories it burns. However, physical activity also causes your metabolism to increase, which increases the amount of fat that your body burns. So, instead of just using the most available energy available through food, your body can also tap into your fat stores and use that macronutrient source for energy.</p><p>One of the most important considerations is the speed in which people lose weight. It is recommended to lose weight slowly to maintain a better health status. First, consider that when you lose weight fast you lose the ability to work to lose just fat. So, when you lose weight fast you lose muscle along with fat. Muscle is crucial in weight loss, as muscle burns fat. Without muscle, you lose less fat, which is the weight that ideally you want to lose. Since muscle promotes fat burning, it helps promote your metabolism. If losing weight fast means losing more muscle that means slowing down your metabolism. In the long run, this translates into gaining more weight in the future.</p><p>The other way to burn more fat while losing weight is to eat. Eat? You might be thinking that doesn’t sound right, however, eating the right foods in the right proportion can actually sum up to an increase in fat burned and weight lost. There are certain foods, some given the title of “super foods,” that can be consumed to increase metabolism and therefore weight los and fat burned.  How these foods are able to increase fat burning in your body is an easy process.  Basically after you eat your body’s insulin levels increase, which slow metabolism and increases fat storage. These foods, then, keep insulin levels low after eating, increasing metabolism and fat burned. Some foods include high-calcium items such as milk, salmon, green tea, edamame, and broccoli.</p><p>By effectively targeting different aspects of your lifestyle, your body will be able to process calories more efficiently, while at the same time being able to burn fat. This result, burning fat while losing weight, is difficult to achieve because it requires constant monitoring of food intake and physical activity. So, a nutritionist is someone who can advise you on your food intake, regulation, etc. You might also think that a dietitian sounds like diet, which also could mean the food you eat. So, a dietitian is someone who can advise you on what food you eat, how much you eat, etc. Now, you might be a little confused. Why have two different titles for the same person? The truth is, these two words, while they sound so synonymous with each other, are in fact quite different. So different, in fact, that choosing one over the other could mean a serious risk to your health or knowledge of it.</p><p><span
id="more-873"></span></p><p><img
class="alignright size-full wp-image-875" title="CIMG0721 (Mobile)" src="http://www.healthcourage.com/wp-content/uploads/CIMG0721-Mobile.jpg" alt="" width="320" height="239" />Interestingly enough, there is no regulation over the term nutritionist. Claiming this title requires no previous or current license by the state, nor does require any formal education in nutrition. A nutritionist is literally just someone who is interested in nutrition. Sometimes, the title is used to distinguish those who have completed a Master’s Degree in nutrition.</p><p>However, because it is difficult to confirm a person’s education, one can falsely give this information and call themselves a nutritionist. Some “nutritionist” might be found working at health or vitamin stores, offering advice on what to buy to increase health benefits. It is extremely crucial to know that because this title is not regulated, someone can legally offer advice under the façade of being an expert in this field, even though no credentials are necessary. If looking for someone to help better understand your eating habits, how to change your diet to a healthy lifestyle, or how to portion control, you definitely do not want to find a “nutritionist.”</p><p>A dietitian, on the other hand, is a title given to those with formal education in the field of nutrition. These professionals must take a series of undergraduate classes that focus on different aspects of nutrition, not necessarily major in nutrition, more so, they focus on classes including biochemistry, molecular biology, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, biology, organic chemistry, calculus, computer science and technology, among a series of nutrition courses.</p><p>So, why all these courses? Well, think about it. You wouldn’t want someone who is going to advise you on your health to not understand the way your body works. Organic chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology, deal with the small reactions that occur in your body that are triggered from the nutrients you eat and need.</p><p>Is that it? Does a dietitian just take a few extra classes and it makes them special? No. After completing a serious of undergraduate courses, a dietitian must take a year internship where they overshadow a current dietitian. Here, just like a medical doctor during their internship, they learn the ins and outs of being a dietitian, how best to deal with patients, how best to become a support system for their patients.</p><p>After a year internship, an exam must be taken, distributed by the state. If passed, and if the undergraduate program from which the student graduated from is accredited, an individual earns the title, Registered Dietitian (RD).  Then, that’s it. A person can advertise themselves as a dietitian and advise on health related matters? No. So, what’s next?</p><p>After successfully completing the exam and becoming an RD, an individual must take a licensing exam, and become a Licensed Dietitian (LD). Once someone becomes a LD, they must take Continuing Education (CE) courses, as well as a licensing exam every so many years to maintain licensure. Some people, who either do not pass their licensing exam or wish not to take it, sometimes create weird titles for themselves to get around the fact that they are not licensed. These may include Dietary Specialist, or Dietary Educator. You might even find these titles on business cards, making them look legitimate. No matter how real something looks, it can still be false.</p><p>If you are looking for someone to help with your help, find someone who has an RD and LD after their name. This ensures that they have passed necessary exams to legally advise patients on health related matters.</p><p>To recap, the main differences between a nutritionist and dietitian is that a nutritionist is not guaranteed to have any professional training in the field of nutrition, while a registered and licensed dietitian has participated in an accredited undergraduate program, has completed an internship with another dietitian, and has completed a registering and licensing exam.</p><p>Be smart; investigate those who you want to be your dietitian. The following are a list of exercises  that do not even require special equipment.</p><ul><li> The list of workout methods here is not all inclusive, there are  many  more and also many variations of the same thing. All of them burn  fat,  build tone, and will in effect help you get rid of your extra gut.</li><li>Exercise and sweating do get a lot of attention when it comes to  losing  weight, but something that can never be overlooked is the  importance of a  good diet.</li></ul><ul><li> Push ups. These are known all over as a standard workout that anyone  can do whether or not you own any workout machines. The concept is simple = use gravity to your advantage.</li><li>Crunches. Don&#8217;t have any weights to lift? You can still get great abs. If you master crunches, you wll be well on your way.</li><li> Sit ups. These are similar to crunches, but with a subtle difference.  Sit ups require you to sit farther up, while crunches simply make you  crunch your abdominal area.</li><li> Squats. This workout will get your back muscles as well as many of your leg muscles working.</li><li> Stiff leg deadlifts. This type of deadlift will test your legs, back,  arms and much more simply by leaning forward on one leg while trying to  keep your body straight.</li></ul><p>Many people have written off diets all together, claiming that they are  either dangerous or don&#8217;t have any effect. The key here is to not go to  any extremes, and find a point of moderation. The diets that are  recognized to be bad for you are the ones that require you to consume  large amounts of one or two things, or abstain too much from certain  foods that you actually need to function.</p><p>Avoiding this pitfall is easy, just find a healthy balance and maintain  moderation. Do not buy into a diet if it claims to burn your belly fat  in some ridiculous amount of time, or if it requires you to go to one  extreme or the other. Staying in the moderate zone and keeping your  regular exercise routine is worth more than all the special pills and  super hyped workout machines in the world.</p><h3>Burning Belly Fat IS Possible</h3><p>So the good news in all of this is that you absolutely can burn away  your belly fat in an impressive amount of time, the bad news is that you  do indeed have to do the work to get there. This should serve as  motivation to those seeking to take on weight loss, and help you continue to push towards the goals you have set for yourself. All the  while, you can save money by avoiding expensive and unneeded equipment. On top of it all, you will not be harming your body with radical diet strategies.</p><p>This means you&#8217;re already ahead of the pack, and it puts you on the right  track towards having the flat belly you&#8217;ve always wanted. Those who take  weight loss seriously, and those who put in the required work  will be rewarded with weight that they can lose. Even more  importantly, it is weight that they will be able to keep off.</p><p>Too many times weight that is lost quickly as a result of radical  dieting comes back later, but with a good routine and the right diet,  that weight is gone for good.
